| John Brenton was born in Plymouth in 1964 and spent
his formative years in the china clay area of mid Cornwall where he
attended St. Stephen's school; from there he went onto St. Austell VIth
form college. In 1986, John graduated from Crewe and Alsager College
with a combined Honours Degree in art and music. Having graduated, John continued painting, whilst supporting himself by working in the social sector, then moving onto insurance and finally into construction. In 1985, John with his wife Gail and their two small children, moved to the West Penwithian Village of Sennen, where he built his own home. John is an artist who prefers to paint fom life, his natural inspiration is constantly drawn from the diverse Cornish landscape and his desire to capture and isolate the passing effects of light upon its surface. John's inherent familiarity of Cornwall directs him to various locations around the county which enables the progression of visual translation. John has exhibited here at Coves Quay during the past year and in conjunction with Panter & Hall and Coves Quay, he has exhibited at Chelsea and also at the Affordable Arts Fair, Battersea. His work was also included in the Chase Contemporary Art Exhibition, and the Royal Academy, in October 2002. During the year John will continue to exhibit here and in London with Panter and Hall in Shepherds Market and together with Panter and Hall and ourselves John will be having a one man show in London in 2004, the date and arrangements of where it is to be held, will be in our news letter in January 2004. John will also be exhibiting with us at Calcot Manor in September, for our three day show of West Country Artists, which is being held in aid of Childrens Hospice, followed by the exhibition at The Royal Academy in October, again in aid of Childrens Hospice and then finally for the year, here at Coves Quay, for our Annual Christmas Show. Whilst working for these shows, John will also be collecting material for a book about him and his work, which on publication in 2004, is to be launched here along with an exhibition of the pictures from the book. |
