MICHAEL HILL:

About the Artist | Previous Exhibition

Born in Plymouth 1951, where he studied Graphic Art and Design at the College of Art, Michael has worked as a freelance illusatrator, but now concentrates on painting in watercolour. This medium compliments his undoubted ability and its versatility enables him to capture the mood and atmosphere of the portrayed subject.

Michael is a teacher and tutor of watercolour painting in the Adult Education Service. He is a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists and he is currently President of the Plymouth Watercolour Society. As an established watercolourist, he is making a significant contribution to the range and variety of works to be found in the Westcountry. He has exhibited at the RI and the RA Summer exhibitions and his commissions include work for Lord Foot, George Creber, HMS Raleigh, Sutton Harbour and HMS Drake.

Michael was commissioned by Plymouth Ground Work Trust to paint a picture for presentation to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her visit to The Royal William Yard. He also produced a commemorative picture to celebrate the presence and service of the Royal Naval Hospital in Plymouth over the last 200 years, which has been reproduced as a very successful limited edition print, which has already become a collector's piece. He was also a winner of the Marine Painting Exhibition and Competition held at Devonport 'Navy Days' in 1993.
