SUE LEWINGTON:

Previous Exhibition

After training at Harrow School of Art, Sue worked as a freelance illustrator during the sixties and in 1975 she moved to live at Renden near Penzance, Cornwall. Whilst living there, Sue ran a small-holding and enjoyed the early years of her two daughters earning a living by selling her etchings through a London agent, teaching Printmaking and Drawing for the Adult Education Service and also working in local schools for SOUTHWEST ARTS in scheme entitled ARTISTS IN SCHOOLS.

Since 1989, when she moved to St. Martins in the Scilly Isles she has painted full time whilst having also opened a gallery called North Farm Gallery where visitors and friends alike flock to view her work and chat to her in relaxed and happy atmosphere.

Sketches of Scilly, in 1977, was Sue's first book which was quickly coveted by many; then came Sketches of St. Ives, Sketches around the Fal, Winter on Scilly, Sketches of Fowey, The making of Eden, Summer on Scilly, and now Sketches of Salcombe. Sue exhibits in galleries in Devon and Cornwall including the Great Atlantic Map Works - St. Just, Trelissick and Lanhydrock, National Trust galleries and here at Cove's Quay Gallery, Salcombe, South Devon.

Over the later part of the nineties Sue has spent more time on the mainland sketching and painting for her books and attending private views and book launches and then returning to her island to recharge her batteries and to paint what is her deepest enjoyment, the island of St. Martins.

This summer the BBC filmed Sue, on the island of Tresco, for a program they are doing about the landcape and it is must to watch when it comes to our screens next year. Also, the much awaited second book on Salcombe, will be launched from here at the gallery in 2003, along with the original pictures that are being published in the book, which will be for sale from the day of the launch. Sue will continue to exhibit here at the gallery and her work is also to be included in a three day weekend show at Calcot Manor, in September 2003.

Please give us your name and address should you wish to reserve a signed copy of the new book and it will be sent to you on the day of the launch, also if you would like to spend a weekend in the Cotswolds at Calcot Manor in September 2003, looking at the Westcountry Artists paintings of that surrounding landsape and villages, we will be delighted to see you there and can give you the booking details.
